China's Voice of Strait returns to 4940 kHz
4940, Voice of Strait (presumed). Randomly from 1347 to 1513, Nov. 6. Last heard here in late March; ex: 9505; interestingly the two other VOS frequencies did not start up today on 4900 nor on 5050; perhaps they will begin in the next few days. I never had any decent VOS reception on their higher frequencies (6115, 7280 and 9505), so I am very pleased to have a chance again to attempt to hear their "Focus on China" Sunday program in English that starts at 1500, on 4940. Program begins with brief African music in assume Malagasy (not in French); 1530-1547 believe segment called "Panorama" with series of conversations; assume via phone, as one woman was talking with the sound of kids in the background. Music bridge into long talk/speech. Signal mostly fair. (Ron Howard, CA/Cumbre DX)

Serbia on 9675 kHz
Bosnia (Serbia/non) 9675 kHz. Before I went to bed I noted unusual strong deep night signals on both 41 and 31 mb even from close-by stations like Wertachtal and Lampertheim, some 120 kms away from my location.

On 9675 kHz was International Radio Serbia from Bijeljina, Bosnia on air with typical and very lovely Serbian (yugoslav) folk music in 0100-0200 UT time slot Nov 1st.

Powerful S=9+20dB and excellent audio from the Swiss made transmitter - sure it was the former 500 kW beast - but seemingly reduced to 200-250 kW level. Deep and very fast fluttery though. ID "Belgradu Serbia" in Serbian noted at 0110 UT. Commentary then "Balkanske ... Serbia integratia ... Europske..." . NX in Serbian at 0157-0159 UT by female. At 0200 UT end of program with some "technical" sentence in Serbian. TX switched off at exact 02.00:52 UT.

Adjacent Iran in Spanish on 9680 kHz was very poor, S=6 level. Adjacent 9670 kHz channel content a mixture of both US Tibetan program from Wertachtal and CHN mainland jamming at S=9+10dB level, 0100-0300 UT, but not annoying. (wb, Germany/HCDX)

Suriname on shortwave
4990, Radio Apintie (Paramaribo) (presumed), 0434-0515, 11/10/2009. Light pop vocal music with a very brief announcement by a man at 0503. Very poor signal, peaking above the noise just enough to identify the program format, but not the language. Have been hearing a carrier on 4990 for the last two or three weeks, and occasionally what sounded like music, but this is the first time the signal was strong enough for even a tentative report. (Jim Evans, TN, RX-340, Random Wires)

Voice of Korea on 11710
Korea, DPR, 11710, Voice of Korea, 1315-1330, Nov 10. Mainly the program consisted of news and views about North Korea and their Leader. Signal was at a good level, but the longpath characteristics were prominent. (Chuck Bolland,FL)
