*** EuroQuest ***
"The (Near End) of Summer Holidays"
The Dutch are caravan crazy. Wherever you drive in Europe, there they are, the family cars straining to pull massive caravans up the Alps, through Provence, and down to the Spanish Coasts. All Europeans do it, but none more so than the Dutch.
Camping and nudity seem to go together in Germany. Euroquest wonders why and visits a few German campgrounds. Aren't you glad this is radio? Bulgaria's an up and coming holiday destination and tourism has meant a building boom on the sub-tropical Black Sea Coast. But local environmentalists say vast areas of natural beauty are being ruined. If you're in France don't try to get anything done in August. The French have all checked out while the tourists checked in. But they're back - well, kind of....

*** The Weekly Documentary ***
"Botswana: The Last Bushmen?"
20,000 years ago, San Bushmen made rock paintings deep in the heart of Southern Africa's Kalahari Desert. The paintings left by these ancient hunter-gatherers depict rhinoceros, elephant and antelope and they offer a tantalising glimpse of the Bushmen's lives and their culture - the daily struggle between man and his environment. In 21st century Botswana, the Bushmen are still facing that struggle. They've been evicted from their lands and are fighting for their culture and the right to determine their own future. Join Anna Yeadell for this week's documentary - "Botswana: The Last Bushmen?"

*** Dutch Horizons ***
Rembrandt's most famous painting is without a doubt The Nightwatch. But the masterpiece, which draws thousands of visitors to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam every day, is incomplete - missing the edges cut off in the 18th century. On Dutch Horizons you'll hear how artist Alfred Eikelenboom is on a mission to have The Nightwatch restored to its original glory. This summer's theme on Radio Netherlands is family and on this week's edition of Dutch Horizons you'll meet a Russian family in Amsterdam. Irina Grivnina is a former Soviet dissident who made the headlines in 1985 when she asked for political asylum in the Netherlands. You'll hear how she and her family are doing today in Amsterdam, their hometown of 20 years.
And we look at a photo-project by Dutch photographer Roelof Bakker. He recently staged an exhibition in London called 365 days - composed of 365 photographs, one for each day of the year 2005.

*** A Good Life ***
Philosopher Henry David Thoreau wrote about the restorative value of trees to the human soul in his book "Walden; or, Life in the Woods". More than 100 years later, researchers are discovering that a pleasurable walk among trees and green space can calm an active child, refresh a tired mind, and make all of us feel better. The view of a tree outside a window can make an office worker more productive, a hospital stay shorter, or a prison sentence more bearable. Even in the most deprived inner city areas, trees and green space around buildings reduce crime and violence as well as promote a sense of community and well-being. Soundprint producer Jean Snedegar explores the power of trees to restore us, body and mind. This programme is part of our international broadcasting collaboration - Crossing Boundaries.
Broadcast times on SW (UTC): 10.27 (SE Asia/Far East), 11.27 (Eastern N America), 14.30 (South Asia), 18.27 & 20.00 (Africa), 00.27 (Eastern N America), 01.27 (Central N America), 04.27 (Western N America), 06.27 (New Zealand), 07.27 (Australia)
